The
Wrestling Rebels had a strong performance at the Jeff Classic despite
fielding only 8 of a possible 14 weight classes. Southwestern finished
8th in a field of 16 teams with 96.00 team points. Luke Schroeder had a
great day finishing atop the podium, beating out some very tough
competitors (2of which were ranked). I felt like everyone stepped up
to the challenge and wrestled very well. We did a outstanding job of
being agressive and controlling the tempo of most of our matches. In
some of the losses we suffered, we were in close matches with very good
wrestlers and we gave ourselves an opportunity to pull out he win.
Dakota Tatem finshed 3rd place at 285. Dakota is improving everytime he
steps on the mat, he applies what he learns and contiues to make
himself better. I was pleasantly surprised in Jacob Collier this
weekend. Jacob has not wrestled since middle school and he decided to
come back out his senior year to help the team out. I told Jacob not to
expect a lot in wins but lets go out and try to accomplish some
things. Jacob not only exceeded my expectations he ended up placing
8th. Michael Brawner (135) and Eli Lauderbaugh (145) finished 4th
place, both wrestled great just coming up short wrestling for 3rd
place. RJ Rowlett (152) and Cory O’Neal (112) both finished 7th place.
RJ missed being in the semi-finals losing an 8 – 7 OT match. Cory
filled in for Michael Humphrey (out sick), Cory weighs all of 90 lbs
but was very competative in a much bigger class than he is used to.
Stuart Bramer (171) a freshman didn’t place but he is wrestling at a
weight class that is dominated by upper classmen and he is getting
better everyday.
